Most of my time, energy, creativity, resources, and social capital these days goes into supporting various philanthropic efforts:

Worthy charities and non-profit organizations to which I give time, social capital, and money:

  • Emergence Benefactors — A charity dedicated to long term systemic upgrades in the global public and clinical knowledge bases of the range of emergent phenomena (spiritual, mystical, magical, energetic, and psychedelic) informed by the basic principles of medical ethics (patient autonomy, beneficence, non-malfeasance, and justice & equity). I am currently the Acting CEO and Board Chair of this organization, so the majority of my time and resources go here these days. We hope to raise hundreds of millions of dollars to support a few hundred researchers, clinicians, academics and others over a few decades to bring about profound and beneficial change in the field of emergence. We support the work of the Emergent Phenomenology Research Consortium (EPRC), which I also help to organize, and other Allies in the emergence research space.

  • Pali Translation Project — The Pali Canon of the Theravada and its Commentaries have never been fully translated into English, and the Pali scholars who could accomplish this are few and aging, with few stepping up to take their place. Further, numerous existing translations were so badly done as to require serious revision. Further, the complete collection needs to be made available freely online and preserved for future generations. The Oxford Center for Buddhist Studies and Sutta Central have come together to help make this happen, believing it will require $6 million and take about 13 years. It is possible that new AI large language model translation tech may help, but still a work in progress.

  • Dharma Overground — This is a free and open online forum where people can openly discuss the a vast range of spiritual practices and their results. I co-founded it with Vince Horn and am its sole financial supporter, though numerous other people lend their time and energy to help support it in the form of technical expertise, moderate, and day to day participation helping others on the path.

Worthy charities to which I simply give money to sometimes and would encourage you to support as well:
